Easter People Devotionals: 1

Lobsters, I want to thank y'all who wrote comments or called with suggestions in response to my challenge, Nothing but the blood? It has been surprising to me how many others are finding a similar gap in their hymnals or music collections, how rare mentions of the Risen Christ are in worship music. And it's been exciting to see a handful of people turning their attention to Him, seeking Him with fervor, and helping me to build a bit of a collection of songs that celebrate this miraculous, history changing, life altering event.

My hope for my family in the coming weeks is to spend regular time together singing these songs that celebrate the resurrection, reading verses that declare it and tell us about what this means in our lives. I want to spend this season grounding our identity in being "Easter People." And I want to offer the little resources I'm collecting to you too, in case you would like to join us, in case you would like to be Easter People with us.

So Emily and I will continue with our regular daily posts, but earlier in the morning, I'll be posting song lyrics or scripture passages or who knows what else I'll find, on a daily basis, that I will be using on that day to remember the Easter Season. Join along with me if you'd like, share more songs, verses, or whatever resources you might have to help me and my Easter People out, as we seek to turn our eyes towards Jesus, resurrected and present.

He is risen. He is risen indeed!

Day One:

Christ The Lord Is Risen Today

Scott Wesley Brown

Christ, the Lord, is risen today
Sons of men and angels say
Raise your joys and triumphs high
Sing ye heavens and earth, reply
Sing ye heavens and earth, reply

Love's redeeming work is done
Fought the fight, the battle won
Death, in vain, forbids Him rise
Christ has opened paradise
Christ has opened paradise

Christ, the Lord, is risen today, Alleluia!
Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia! Alleluia!

He lives again, our glorious King
Where, O death, is now thy sting?
Dying once, He all doth save
Where thy victory, oh grave?
Where thy victory, oh grave?
Following our exalted Head
Made like Him, like Him we rise
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies

Christ, the Lord, is risen today, Alleluia!
Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia! Alleluia!
Christ, the Lord, is risen today, Alleluia!
Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia! Alleluia!

For Christ, the Lord, is risen
For Christ, the Lord, is risen
For Christ, the Lord, is risen

Christ, the Lord, is risen today, Alleluia!
Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia! Alleluia!
Christ, the Lord, is risen today, Alleluia!
Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia! Alleluia!

Christ, the Lord, is risen today, Alleluia!
Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia! Alleluia!

For Christ, the Lord, is risen
