Long Distance Family-ish

In the past two weeks, we were the lucky beneficiaries of not one, but TWO visits by our old friends, the Nadlers. Aaron was Manny's college roommate, and his wife Danielle has quickly and easily become to me a dear friend. Regardless of how often we see them, they will always be to us like family.

Us with Aaron way back when
[and also Emily and our buddies Kerby and Nate]
Sofia seemed to pick up on their role in relationship to us quickly, as she almost instantly took to them like her own family as well. She cozied up with Danielle in our library chair to read books they had brought her. And it did not take her long to look Aaron over and declare him to be, "Cute Aaron," the name  he was called by all of us for the duration of our visits together. She would take one or the other of them by the hand and lead them about the house to her play spaces or couches for lots of play. It is positively striking how she was able to clearly see the affection and comfort we all had for one another. She had really enjoyed our time with our friends, and like Manny and I, Sofia looks forward to their future return.

The cuteness of Aaron overwhelms her little heart

Hey Nadlers, that baby is a good look for you. ;)

  1. Zoe ~ Thank you for this winsome post. I am Danielle MacMurchy Nadler's mother and I must thank you for befriending my daughter as she tenaciously pursues the last page of her "Sierra Phantom" book. Your editing suggestions laced with large dollops of encouragement have helped Danielle tremendously. Aaron's suggestion to contact you was perfectly timed. I was never so happy to hear that you were the wind under Danielle's sails.

The pictures of your Sofia with Aaron and Danielle perfectly portray the affectionate interplay between them. Very beautiful.
Thank you for opening your home to them both coming and going from Canada. They were smitten with Maine. Your hospitality is so appreciated. I would love to meet you someday myself.

God be near ~ Caren MacMurchy

    1. Caren -
Thank you for your kind words! Danielle was right in telling me that you were also a beautiful writer. It has been such a stimulating joy and delight to work with Danielle so far and I can only hope she has many more projects up her sleeve that could use encouragement from a mere blogger such as myself.

We actually did meet years ago, at least at Danielle's bridal shower, if not other Nadler house gatherings as well. When we lived in the Bay Area, we were regular fixtures amongst their furnishings. It was a pleasure to meet you then and I look forward to future encounters!
      Blessings!

  2. Zoe ~ So we met at the Nadler's on the occasion of Danielle's bridal shower. Thank you for that reminder. I was under the impression that D was meeting you for the first time in Maine. Now the scenario is becoming more clear.
Wouldn't it be terrific to live close someday? You and the Nadlers. You would love quaint Leesburg, VA. It's your turn to visit them, eh?
I will enjoy perusing your blog. Until our paths cross again, may God be near.

  3. Ah, so fun! Manny, Zoe and, of course, Sofia, we had such a blast! Aaron and I declared on our first day in Maine it would be our new east coast vacation destination. Feel free to let us know when we've worn out our visit. Hope we can get up there again very soon! Maybe this spring?!
P.S. Are you guys going to Cali for Christmas?
