Movie Review Monday #7: Fourth of July Edition

So I was going to write the top ten movies that I associate with the Fourth of July, but I could seriously only think of three, and one doesn't really even count:

1. Independence Day: This is because of the title of the film. For some reason, this film puts me to sleep. I almost never fall asleep in movies, and I have slept through this one twice. So weird.
2. Men In Black: This is both because it came out a Fourth of July weekend and because it stars Will Smith, who was also in Independence Day. I love Men in Black. It's witty and original and exciting and the squirmy pug alien makes me giggle.
3. The Sandlot: Just for the scene where they're playing baseball with fireworks exploding in the night while Ray Charles croons "America the Beautiful" in the background. It makes me all nostalgic for my boyhood in the 60s, which is impressive since I am female born in the 80s.

Hopefully you people are out grilling some cow meat, drinking something cold and refreshing, and lighting things on fire instead of coming here looking for quality blogging.

In conclusion...a picture from one of my best Fourths ever.

Happy Independence Day, American Lobsters! Happy Fourth of July, all Lobsters!

  1. You forgot:

    1. Gettysburg - Terrific movie, and in case you forgot, Pickett's Charge was on the 3rd of July. So it definitely counts as an Independence Day move, especially when you consider what all those men died for.

    2. The Patriot - Yes, it's two Aussie's playing Americans and it's totally inaccurate in it's history, but it's American themed blockbuster mega picture!

    3. Yankee Doodle Dandy - James Cagney singing, 'nuff said.

    4. Team America: World Police - It's only fitting that we celebrate being American by making fun of America and practicing free speech.

I could probably keep going listing American themed movies. I intentionally omitted Westerns and WW2 movies (especially those by John Wayne) because that would just take forever. Happy Fourth of July!
